Diagnosis today

Hello I was hoping for some help. My son has been diagnosed with high functioning autism today after years of assessments etc.. finally some answers. Now continuing with ADHD assessments. He was unable to sit through his QB test as 15 minutes is far to long for him. He became anxious, angry and couldn't sit still so abandoned the test.

I would really appreciate some advice, support etc of what I can help him achieve. Support at school, what doors having a diagnosis opens and how I can help him say to day at home.

My husband and I both work full time and we have two other children in the home.

Eldest (9) diagnosed with autism
Middle (6) currently going through the same assessments
Youngest (3) average but challenging toddler lol

All boys.

Ripping my hair out with worry and stress and need some parental experience and advice.

Thank you

What does you ds have in place at school currently? Has he been assessed by an OT? Has he been seen by an Ed Psych?

Most help can be accessed without a diagnosis as they should be done on a needs basis (DLA, EHCP etc)

I would recommend reading as much as you can around the subject. Do you know if you have any SEN groups near to you? If you google your area and 'local offer' it should come up with everything that is provided for SEN children in you area.

I don't really know that much about ADHD but potentially using some methods that help sensory seekers could work. For example, using a yoga ball to sit on, tying an exercise band to the chair legs for him to kick while he works, wobble cushions. There is a very good book called 'the out of synch child' which gives you things to look out for.
