ds is reading and writing!

Totally amazed at ds's progress at school. He only started 4 weeks ago and now can write 11 letters. He writes without copying and very accurately. Also he was making words the other evening with laminated letters. Still very crude at this stage, eg made a word but did it backwards, but then did another and did it the right way round. He's also 'read' or at least memorised quite a few words from the school books.

I have high hopes for him now as he tends to either be able to do something really well or not at all and it looks like he is going to cope well with reading and writing. Now his speech is another thing, although it is improving he is still a long way behind. Need to chase up his SALT appointment - been waiting 16 months!!

Eulalia - fab news! Well done your ds

Fancy signing the speech therapist petition about to go to the Scottish Parliament?

Also wanted to add I cannot believe your ds hasn't had a SALT appointment for 16 months - disraceful!

tamum · 17/09/2004 12:39

That's really great news Eulalia. It sounds as though it will make his life easier in all sorts of ways. I'm very pleased . How is he coping socially?

Lovely news. I think I saw you say elsewhere that school was turning out to suit him very well generally, so altogether

suedonim · 17/09/2004 17:52

That's fantastic, Eulalia, both for your ds and you, in that you know you made the right choice about schools. Awful about the SALT, I didn't realise it was as bad as that, up here.

Great news!

I am so glad to hear that your Ds's reading and writing is coming along so well! Just shows how clever our little ones are doesn't it? I am sure his speech will be fine but i would chase them up as 16 months seems an awful long time to wait. Give them hell when you get hold of them!

Love Debbie and Cameron xxxx

Fantastic. Well done your ds!

Thanks. He's doing quite well socially tamum, in at least he isn't imitating the teacher like he did at nursery. The most he's been told to do is to stop singing in class! (rather sweet I thought). However he still finds it hard to make friends. The other kids greet him in the playground and he doesn't respond. Doesn't seem to know what "hello" and "goodbye" are for. Difficult to teach this so just hoping he'll pick it up in time.

suedonim - its OK in the city - my friend's boy who really has a very very mild problem was seen in a couple of weeks. That really annoyed me. There's been a shortage of SALTs in this area for some time now.
