Statutory school age?

I wondered if anyone knows the legal requirement for schools/LEA's in regard to statutory school age or if they could point me in the direction of a website that will state this.

The reason I ask is that DS is 4.5 years old (dob 14th Feb 2003), he currently attends a SLD-PMLD school 3 full days a week.

I was under the impression that when he returned to school in September that he would be going full time (5 days a week).

However I found out today in his school/home book that this isn't the case, I quote "Full time is - for the moment a way away - since going by his date of birth he is still being covered by his present arrangements".

Obviously I am desperately disappointed about this as I know that he will benefit so much from 5 days a week and also I my 2nd child is due on Sept 7th, so it would have also made life a lot easier.

If anyone can shed any light on this I would be very grateful, I have tried phoning several people from the LEA but they have been absolutely useless.

Thanks in advance.

Heheh, you have to love some JM's little gems - always puts a smile on face, even when it is describing bad days.

We will definately have to arrange something over the holidays, its funny you say about the fence, we got the funding from the family fund and had someone out to give us a quote today, still waiting on the company you used as the surveyor guy is ill at the moment apparently.

Would be interesting to see if they recognised each other, we took DS to the donkeys this Saturday for the first time, one of his class mates was there, we have seen him at a couple of b'day parties and this boy is always very taken with DS, however DS has always been quite uninterested.

But on Saturday it was a completely different story with the most over the top smiles by DS you have ever seen, it looked so false but was an absolute milestone for him.

I was totally amazed at not only the recognition but the excitement of it all to him, he normally has no time for children his age at all, although he is very taken with bigger boys right now, not sure why but it may be because his bus is almost completely made up of seniors and him currently.

Anyways, we have booked in for every Wednesday session they have over the holidays, so if you are going there we may see you.

I am going to book some Wednesdays, but only when I have help in- the last trip was a bit of a nightmare.

Ds1 was like that, never really shows much interest of other chikdren within school, but both boys were blown away by seeing each other at the donkeys- it was really touching!

JM's notes are lovely, and his annual review reports and ieps (and 'diffy diffy differents').
