Retained Primitive Reflexes - magic

I'm just posting because I cannot believe it...
My son was diagnosed with dyspraxia and ASD. He was 2 years behind in maths and 18 months behind with reading - and almost Reception age for writing (in year 3).
We started seeing a lady for retained reflexes in Horsham in January, and he is now willingly reading by himself, his writing is legible and he understands what he's doing with his times tables! How is this possible? We just managed to secure an EHCP, but now I'm wonderful whether we jumped the gun... oh well...
In addition, we've done a listening programme called the Safe and Sound Protocol, and I'm sure this has helped with attention in class, as well as with social skills. Our therapist uses Rhythmic Movement Technique - can seriously recommend her.
I'm so excited that I wanted to share my success.

Thankyou for sharing. We’ve just started retained reflex therapy so are hoping it helps, nice to hear a positive success story

Ooh thanks for the post. What did she do? Is there an order to tackle the reflexes in? DS had DCD and we have considered it, but its a long way from here to Chester each week and its quite expensive too.

Couldn't find any science research on results for this therapy and it seems to provoke variable responses from professionals in DCD/OT field.

There are lots of You Tube videos, so we might try DIY :)

Possibly not as effective but worth a try.

That is a really quick result from Jan. Ours has delays in reading and writing - he is Y4 - very similar profile to your son. Would be interested to know more! Keep posting and let us know what the lady does. I think its fascinating.

How much and what are you doing at home in terms of exercises and other stuff to help reading/writing.

We are applying for EHCP. LA thinking about assessing.

Kisstheteapot14 - we tried youtube videos too, but I think it's really better to work with someone who knows about this stuff and where to start - we have seen her four times now (we went on Monday), and she has now started doing some pressure and breathing exercises with him and these seem to have an immediate effect. We do about 5 minutes of exercises a day - really great. Now he has finally learnt to ride his bike after struggling all this time, and has suddenly got actual FRIENDS at school! It's worth looking into. He also seems to quite like going to appointments, and engages really well with the therapist, who seems to just "get" him. All very exciting and positive for once.

Hi - we go to Emma - Move2Connect in Horsham. I think she also runs clinics in a few other places nearby. She really gets children - and us parents too. Good luck!
