ADHD / Calling out in class

Hi ya

My DS (12) has ASD and ADHD.
His main issues are not being able to focus, stay on track and calling out in class and being quite demanding within class. This was told to me 13 times in a row by 13 different teacher's at his parent's evening. Although they all said "we know he finds it hard". So they're understanding. He has't had any detentions etc for calling out etc So it can't be too horrendous.

He isn't medicated for ADHD as we didn't feel his needs were high enough to need it and he got on fine.
Has anyone used any natural remedies/tablets? I'm just wondering if there's something that might just help him a bit.

This is literally the only issue we have and it is causing issue with other children in his class getting annoyed with him, which isn't great for his anxiety!

Any tips would be amazing!
Thanks :)

I'd probably try the medication if it's causing annoyance to other kids and teachers and affecting his ability to concentrate.

Thanks Mirali i think that's what we may look in to doing.
Do you know if medication can just be used for school? Or does it need to be used every day?

You can medicate on school days only if you wish

Thanks Lara. I think that's what we'll go with.

I've spoken to the SENCO and she's going to get the ball rolling...hopefully!

We use meds on school days, it helps DS concentrate in lesson and we’ve seen a huge improvement in all areas academically. It also helps with his impulsivity, so he’s not been excluded since we’ve got the dosage correct.

You say that he hasn't had any detentions so it can't be that bad. This probably isn't the case if they've all mentioned it. It would be wrong to give a detention for something which is part of a special need that the child can't help - so the teachers are probably making allowances. That doesn't mean it's not a problem though! I think you're probably doing the right thing by looking at medication even if it only helps him get along better with his peers x
