I quote:

'I am very concerned about X as he has significant delayed (sic) in all the areas mentioned above. To access the national curriculum he will require support in the classroom to further develop his attention and language skills. Further ass4essment, observation and discussion with professionals is required to make a fuller, more holistic profuile of X. Therapy will then be offerexd as appropriate'

DH has reassured me that the serious concerns doen't mean I am a bad mother (yep the behaviourala dvisory teacher still getting to me), but whats the last bit about? Surely if he needs additinal obs they should be makinga nother appointment? Are they just leavuing su again?

Apparently the LEA wont be taking his language neeeds into acocunt as his statement hit panel (they wont tell us result) 2 weeks befor thsi was issued .

Also another question- hate to as SALT because i always do and must sound like I dont trust th, which esentially i do.

they did atest called the test of pretend play and he scored above average. nowm they said that tested imagination but all it involved was a bag with toys in it- eh a table, chair, cloth, playe, cutlery. All ds3 did was assemble and make no attempt to interact further, she said that indicates imagination, but I thnk it just shows his addiction to puzzles and havinge verything in the right palce? I presume there si mroe to this than my understanding of imaginative play?

They said his attention span was 3 minutes max, he is completely passive, has obsessions, and only operates at 1-2 word level (2 intermittently). Surely that ahs to affect palcement?

I'm no expert but I thought there was more to pretend play than just putting the toys in the right place.

Will bump this in case anyone else on here can help.

bump!

Peachy check with IPSEA about your LEA not taking his language needs into account because we ourselves wrote to DS,s clinical psych and she did a report and we were advised that the LEA should include her recommendations and dx.
this was before the statement was finalised though.

It sounds like the test was The Symbolic Play Test .... and in my opinion ... and it is only my opinion .... it's a limited and dated test!

Symbolic Play Test may be limited (as are all assessments tbh) but it is simple, non stressful and gives a good idea at an early age of how play skills are developing dependent on how a child relates the objects to each other.

Statement is deliberate waffle though-as they usually are.
