The lovely thing about her house is that it's ds1 proof as well, so I could sit down and have a cup of coffee and not worry about him escaping

Fio that is so crap.

How can you be offered less because your child is at an SLD/PMLD school, that is such backward thinking. Here there is bugger all suitable for SLD/PMLD attendees but at least it does seem to 'count' when applying for dps.

can't believe you only get 6 hours per month DP we used to get 8 hours a month and were told that was the lowest they could give.

nothing, nilch, na-da.
we were turned down for respite 3/4 months ago and i havent had the energy to fight it with the tribunal going on.
mind you its no different really as he,s been at home for 2 years with me now, its actually better in some ways cos there are 2 boys on our close who are really kind to him and their mums invite him in to play, so i should get a bit of relief!!!!

i am going to appeal against the non award of respite as soon as he is in school though.

well it's taken for DH to be seriously ill for them to up our DP hours to 28 per month and to sort out any respite.
things will be somewhat easier in sept when DS moves to his sisters school.

actually not dreading it as much as I have in the past

which is good!

We got 3 days over the 6 weeks for Ellie to go to a play scheme, so at least I can take Grace to a few special things on those days

I'm not dreading the actual holidays, more filling in the flippin' 'additional information' pack for the SN playscheme. It feels like the bleedin' DLA forms, and they want it back by Wednesday.

Actually Gateshead are quite good, there's a lot of provision generally for summer schemes and they do involve children with SN very well. They get the information packs in early enough to train the supporters well in advance of the schemes starting and then allocate where needed depending on the applications received. J (who has AS) has always really enjoyed his and the staff are usually good. This year will be his first go at the 8-14 so I'm a bit twitchy, but time will tell.
