I've tried googling to no avail. I know they exist, where do I get one from?

Hoping someone can help.
If not can you make one?

PhilomenaButterfly · 23/02/2019 20:33

It should be possible, but my sewing skills are virtually nil.

Most backpacks have a carry handle at the top. Carabiner clip a strap to the handle. No sewing involved.

Wolfiefan · 23/02/2019 20:37

Please don’t take this the wrong way! I have dubious sewing skills too. Blush I would be tempted to see if I could attach a dog lead to a rucksack your child likes. I’m all for the lazy option.
Waiting for someone to tell me off for saying a child should be on a lead. Blush

PhilomenaButterfly · 23/02/2019 20:49

Both those ideas are great, thanks to both of you! 😊

You can buy the little life backpack 'leads' separately and then attach it to the little loop on the top of a bigger backpack that has a chest strap.

PhilomenaButterfly · 24/02/2019 08:11

Thanks Sockwomble

Afraid I only know of the LittleLife ones, as pp mentioned you could always but the rein with a clip separately.

Assume buying standard mobility reins and threading the rein through the gap in the loop of a backpack wouldn't work (IE wear the reins under the backpack)? We use a wrist rein sometimes but I know you have specifically said a backpack with reins so I won't start making other suggestions!

PhilomenaButterfly · 24/02/2019 09:42

Koalas where can I buy reins big enough? He grew out of his first ones when he was 4. This is because we now can't go to the Sainsbury's café without loads of stress because bastards stole all 5 disabled child trolleys.

I was given the name of a brand suggested to me for my DS in case he needs them when gets better. I've written it down and can't find it! I think it was this brand as sounds familiar but not 100% sure. They do a child and adult size.

Otherwise just try searching for adult walking reins/disability reins.

KoalasAteMyHomework · 24/02/2019 10:02

Sorry that was meant to say older not better!! Awful auto correct there. DS is autistic not ill!

PhilomenaButterfly · 24/02/2019 11:27

Koalas thanks for the link.

I've seen little life ones used on 11 year olds

I don’t know about the size but this one looks age appropriate

These ones as Koalas suggested are great for older kids and adults....I’d like some for my son, but, at I’m afraid I won’t be buying them. £34, £53 or £61 depending on age and style required!
Always the same, mention ‘Special Needs’ and prices go insanely over the top. They take advantage of the fact that sometimes, us parents of SEN kids have no other option.

My son tries to climb out of his car seat regularly, in the Crelling range on the same website, there is a seat harness especially designed for ‘escapees’, but yet again, even though I’m desperate for a solution, they are priced at £148.99.....what?!?!?!

I also have to buy ‘Unflavoured toothpaste’, of course, it’s not available on prescription from doctor or dentist, so I have to buy myself. The cheapest I’ve found is £3.85 on eBay for a 50ml tube!

Sorry for the rant, but it just really annoys me 😔

KoalasAteMyHomework · 13/03/2019 07:47

I didn't realise the harnesses were so expensive. But yes it's a disgrace how much is charged for sensory and SEN stuff. A lot of this isn't fun treats, it's necessary to help support our children.
It angers me that a peanut ball can be £70 but Argos sell a Pilates peanut ball and pump for a tenner. I can see no difference. Or the sensory bubble lamps that are triple the price just because they are labelled as sensory. And I highly doubt a weighted vest manufacture cost is anywhere near what they charge to buy one. Plus cuts mean a lot of services don't hire out equipment etc to test or try out first.
So I totally get where you are coming from! It's an utter disgrace.

Advicewouldbelovely mentioned these ones...... would probably be worth giving them a call to check on measurements to see if they’re suitable. At £9.99 they’re clearly a more affordable option. I think I’ll have to investigate.

Stopitleah · 13/03/2019 19:00

£70 for a peanut ball 😂 Who in their right mind would pay this much?

IntentsAndPorpoises · 13/03/2019 19:02

@Stopitleah bit random but I have some I opened flavourless toothpaste. Because dd didn't like the taste Grin

IntentsAndPorpoises · 13/03/2019 19:03

I mean pm me and I'll happily post it to you.

KoalasAteMyHomework · 14/03/2019 07:16

The little life reins like that are designed only up to age 3 unfortunately

Stopitleah · 25/03/2019 17:52

I thought the little life ones would probably be that age range. Didn’t get a chance to investigate.
For now, I’m using our special needs buggy as of course I have within the last few weeks developed wrist problems (Tenosynovitis) and can’t keep hold of ds very easily especially when he does his infamous ‘dropping to the floor’ act 🙄

Geneticsbunny · 26/03/2019 08:28

If you end up needing something altered I am happy to do some sewing for you.

Stopitleah · 26/03/2019 12:07

Aha @Harryy , these look like a good option 😃👍🏼
