How did adhd present itself in your 4 year old? Ds has autism, wondering about adhd...

My ds has a diagnosis of asd but we often think he could have adhd too, thiugh unsure if it's just the autism!? I'm not looking to seek a diagnosis, yet anyway, but just curious to hesr what symptoms were in those with kids with adhd at 4. Also would be very helpful to hesr from those with kids with a dx of autism too.

Ds has both diagnosis. For him it was the lack of ability to focus at all and the complete impulsivity which raised the question. He has been medicated now for about 6 months (he is 9) and it has made a massive difference

Sirzy that's good to hesr. Thank you for your response. Would you mind giving examples of impulsivity? Throwing, running, hitting? Tipping stuff over, swiping stuff off of units, breaking stuff?

My ds (5.5) has a diagnosis of ASD, no ADHD as far as far as we know. He does all the things you mentioned above.

A lot of Ds's destructive behaviour is due to sensory overload or fight/flight behaviour caused by anxiety. Some of it is also caused by lack of communication skills, at 4 he only really had about 30 words.

Liv we have always assumed this is autistic behaviors but as he can be so erratic and not focus on things I'm suspecting adhd as possibility, though not a certainty. I guess this is more of a pondering post than anything else!

Yes I don't really know very much about ADHD and what qualifies for a diagnosis.

My ds can also seem quite erratic and have difficulty focusing but then if he is interested in something he's impossible to distract. He is very sensory seeking so that makes him seem very 'busy' and agitated if he is not regulated.

Liv. He sounds very similar to my ds.
