Reasonable adjustments for needing to move about

Realistically what can high school put in place for a 12 year old who is feeling cooped up in lessons and needs to move about?
He does have some special needs but no one seems to know what and as he is conforming and well behaved (so far) he just gets left alone but the pressure of him having to sit still whilst at home he can't stop moving is taking its toll.
He also complains about his uniform restricting him.
He has always had a issue with clothes and only likes baggy things and will not wear jeans or long sleeve tops but he is struggling with a shirt and tie and blazer.
I know school won't allow him to wear a t shirt and joggers and I don't think he would want to stand out anyway but these 2 issues are making him miserable and he is either very crabby at the end of the day or withdrawn .

Has anyone got any ideas how to approach school to help him?

can he wear something under the shirt and trousers to make them feel better?

book in to see the senco and discuss it with them. see if he can have a movement break. he should get this between lessons anyway if they are moving around school but it can be stressful if there are a lot of people about too.

Has he seen a OT that sounds like sensory processing differences, movement breaks in high school can be acheived by the kids being given jobs like taking things to the office, moving books around. Ask SENCO for an OT referral as they can give tips on what you can do to help him. Both of my kids have sensory processing difficuties and need movement and struggle with sounds and textures.

He hasn't seen a OT but I'm hopeless at putting my point across and I have a feeling School will say kids have to learn to sit still in preparation for jobs in later life or if they give him a movement break then all kids will want one etc.
I just don't know how to phrase it

Would your gp refer to to an o/t or does it have to be school? An o/t will be able to help you speak to the school.

My ds is still in primary. He is the only one in his class with a pass that allows him to leave the room for 5 minutes whenever he needs to without asking the teacher. It has made a huge difference. His concentration is better, his work has improved and his anxiety has reduced. I met an o/t at a training course who told me what to ask the school for and how to word it. I was very pleased when the school agreed.

My ds always wears a soft vest or white t shirt under his shirt, it seems to be important to him. Labels always cut off and seemless socks and pants. Also a fidget cube or something to fidget with in his pencil case or pocket.

You must try to speak to the SENco. It could really help your ds.
