Convinced DCD/dyspraxia but Paed only diagnosed hypermobility

So we went to paediatrician follow up appointment fully prepared for Developmental Coordiantion Disorder diagnosis - ds has all the physiological signs( gross/ fine motor, hand eye coordination, poor gait etc) as well as the neurological (eg poor planning, emotional problems, anxiety, sensory processing probs etc). Has been preliminary assessed by CAMHS & shows some traits of autism but not all.. on waiting list for full assessment. My understanding is that DCD/dyspraxia includes some autism traits so I thought boom all under one diagnosis it all makes sense. And also read that many people that are diagnosed with DCD have hypermobility too (which ds has - wears insoles)

Confused

Paed has said if any physical reason for his symptoms present during her assessment then she wouldn’t diagnose DCD. So she has said hypermobility is her only diagnosis & discharged us, saying any emotional/behavioural issues should be assessed by CAMHS

Any experience of this?? I feel shattered, deflated and confused.

Ooh that's interesting. Ds has a diagnosis of both. He has huge motor planning issues too, eg forgets steps on tasks or gets them muddled up and struggles with coming up with ideas. I don't see how being hypermobile would cause the cognitive issues? Have you seen an OT?

Paed wouldn't even go down the possible diagnosis route until we'd been seen by OT and that report had made its slow painful journey back through the system but all the paed did was rule out any other potential neurological things like dodgy reflexes etc before confirming the DCD diagnosis. OT also had picked up low muscle tone (which tracking back through DD2's red book I found was down as early as her post-birth checks as an issue... and as usual no bugger followed up and kept an eye on). We don't have hypermobility to deal with but it's fairly common it goes along with DCD.

I had a twit of a GP before who basically snarled "why d'ya fink there's a problem" before refusing to even refer us - school fired a few stroppy letters off which got people much more cooperative on our side.

First thing I'd do though - from bitter experience - give yourself a couple of days to mentally lick your wounds and emotionally recover from that bit of a battering and deflation before going back at it again... I've had to do that a couple of times - back off and think my next step through because otherwise you can just absolutely burn yourself out and that puts you in a weaker position to achieve any sense at all from this fucked up system we're stuck in.
