Top of the list for assessment, what will actually happen?

Hi, my DS is 10 and we were referred for an asd assessment nearly 2 years ago. I recently contacted my local CCG who chased up where he was on the list and advised me that he is at the top and I should receive a call by mid January to get an appointment for assessment.
What actually happens tho? Do they go to see him at school? Or do we just go to see a doctor? As you can tell nothing has really been explained to me so if anyone can shed some light..?!

I think it depends a lot on the area. I would just call them back and ask what the basic elements are at least (school visit, home visit, ADOS, or whatever). I've always found the paediatrician's assistant/admin person very helpful on this stuff (one time the paediatrician herself actually phoned me to explain, which I thought was "above and beyond", so they don't seem to mind explaining what is going to happen).

DD's assessment had a school visit and ADOS, and then they also took account of all the histories they'd taken from us over the years, and observations they'd done with her in clinic in the past (but didn't do a new interview with us for the final assessment). But she was only 4 so probably quite different to what they would do with a 10 year old and especially if they haven't met him/worked with him before.

Glad you made the top of the list and hope you have a wonderful Christmas!
