Ds has chicken pox so he’s going to miss the last week of school which I am gutted about. 3.5 weeks off doesn’t bode well for a smooth return after Easter! Plus, of course, we can’t really go anywhere until they scab over. He only has 3 spots so far, first noticed 2 on Saturday and he got another yesterday. A few other children in his class have come down with it too.

Hi duplo! Sorry your ds has been having a tough time, great that you've got the EHCP process started.

Oh no open! I hope he doesn't have it too badly.

dimples76 · 01/04/2019 18:10

Hi

Welcome duplo

Open hope chicken pox isn't too bad - one of DS's best friends had chicken pox a couple of weeks ago. DS's 1:1 thought that he might be coming down with them too as he was very grumpy ...no sign of any spots though!

I feel ready for bed now - don't feel that I have the energy for DS's bedtime.

openupmyeagereyes · 01/04/2019 20:42

dimples I think it has up to a 21 day incubation period so you never know! I hope you found some energy for the last stretch.

He’s developed maybe half a dozen smaller spots today. I’m hoping I won’t wake up to find him covered in them!

Light I hope your dd gets to enjoy a relaxing Easter holiday and recharge her batteries.

Duplo I hope you’re having a better week. Is her TA permanent? Well done for getting off the EHCP request. Hopefully they will agree to assess.

Is her difficult behaviour constant or does it come and go? Does she have sensory issues?

Sue I know what you mean. We will be reviewing the EHCP next term. I think next term will go by quite quickly.

I hope your ds gets used to the changes and that his anxiety settles down.

One of DD's friends just caught CP (I think probably from his Dad who got shingles, though another one of the kids in Reception got pox too so it seems to be doing the rounds here). DD has a very high temperature this evening so I hope that's not the start... though I just checked in with her friend's Mum today and apparently he hasn't had it too badly. I think it can actually be worse older - I keep wondering about the vaccine but I think they need at least two jabs. Anyway, I hope your DS doesn't suffer too much Open - it does seem like it can be not tooooo bad at this age, so hope he is one of the lucky ones...

Light he developed more spots overnight but still has just a smattering really. These new ones are, so far, much smaller than his original 3. He’s still well in himself but not keen on letting me put Virasoothe on them. I don’t think he likes the wet feeling before it dries. There are five off in his class with it. Sadly he won’t get a chance to say goodbye to his teacher before she leaves but I popped down today to take her a gift.

On Tuesdays I work later than other days - I arrived at my Mum's to the sound of DS screaming and the news that he had 4 toileting accidents at school today (he has had that many accidents in a day since the early days of toilet training 18 months ago. He screamed at me all the way home but is now all sweetness and light!

openupmyeagereyes · 02/04/2019 19:03

Oh no dimples, I wonder what happened?

OP posts:
dimples76 · 02/04/2019 20:09

I couldn't really get an answer from him Open - he did keep saying that it was too noisy in the playground but I think that this is his default answer when there's an issue at school. I think that he's v tired as we approach the end of term. We have EHCP review the first week of term and I'm hoping to make some progress with school re breaks and toileting ....Roll on Friday!

openupmyeagereyes · 02/04/2019 20:58

dimples it will be great when they are able to tell us more.

I finished the book we’ve all downloaded! I really enjoyed it. I’m wondering if I should read it all again or just review my (many) highlights.

Day 4 at home today. So far he’s been really good but I think he’s starting to get fed up, poor thing. As am I really, it’s no fun being stuck in all the time! I need to come up with some fun activities today I think. If only he liked crafts...

OP posts:
LightTripper · 04/04/2019 09:42

Does he like water play open? I remember as a kid one of my favourite activities was when my Mum would just stand me on a chair at the kitchen sink with soapy water and jam jars/cups, a bottle brush, various lids, wooden spoons, etc. and my DD has always loved that (which makes me think we haven't done it for ages!) Might be good for half an hour?

openupmyeagereyes · 04/04/2019 09:49

Light we haven’t done it for ages either, we used to use the bathroom sink. Maybe we’ll give it a go at the kitchen sink today - more room to play with things as you say. Thanks.

Hope everyone is having a nice Easter break.

Ds broke up from school on Friday, I'll be pleased of the 2.5 weeks off from the hundred school runs I have to do a day.

I'm 2 days in to toilet training ds again, not going to badly at the moment, he's not actually had an accident at all today, I caught him about an hour ago about to do a pooh in his underpants while he was squeezed down the side of the washing machine Grin he said mum in the room 'ds' doing a pooh with his concentrating face.

No chance fella! so I carried him to the toilet and he did it in there, don't usually have an issue with him poohing his pants it's usually just the wee constantly in his pants with the very odd pooh accident.

Thing is he totally understands, he understands you wee and pooh in the toilet, he understands when he has wet pants and if I say ds your pants are wet, were does wee go, he will say in the toilet not in your pants. And he does the fiddling with his bits before he wees so he does know when he needs it.

We went for a Chinese at lunch and he asked dh in the restaurant 'to take you to the men's toilet' meaning dad take me to the men's toilet, so dh did and he weed in there.

It's been a very long 2 year process...... but I think he might do it this time. I'm really hoping so anyway.

He's going back to school in 2 weeks in underpants regardless, much to there horror Grin

So I'm hoping we can have it established or there abouts in the next 2 weeks.

🙏🏻

He wees sitting down though, he's too unsteady on his feet and unco-ordinated to do it standing up, that's ok isn't it?

openupmyeagereyes · 07/04/2019 16:22

danni it’s brilliant that he asked to do a wee while you were out for lunch! How is his eating going? Last you mentioned he had branched out a bit. Things are still the same here, sadly.

Hopefully this time you’ll crack it, 2.5 weeks is a good length of time 🤞

Ds still sits too. I think it’s fine for now.

We went out properly today for the first time this week. Poor ds has been desperate to see other children after a week at home. He had a good run around the park this morning before the rain started.

OP posts:
danni0509 · 08/04/2019 10:19

Open he's still fussy as in I can probably count on 2 hands what will pass his lips, he mainly eats yoghurts and fruit in the day and nutri grain bars, but he's eating bolognaise / curry / beans and toast or cheese and tomatoe pizza with rice and cucumber for his tea, there his 4 meals I rotate and the odd night he'll just have a big bowl of porridge and some fruit although the porridge has to have half a teaspoon of Nutella melted in to make it chocolate porridge, that's about all he will eat barring the odd chicken nugget happy meal or the odd daily bar of chocolate.

But that's a million times better than this time last year, so I'm really pleased, his eating used to worry me sick he was quite literally living on fresh air last year. He would eat one cracker with butter and that would he it for 24 hours 😕

I don't want to count my chickens or anything but ds only had 1 wee accident yesterday, he was playing with his ball in the room in the afternoon then he jumped up and went and stood by the door and I see a wet patch were he had been on the floor, so he realised he had wet and went and stood away from it so I just took him to the toilet and said wee goes in here ds not on the floor.

He's been ok since he got up this morning 5 a bloody clock.

Hope he cracks it this time. This has been my biggest mission with him so far lol.

danni0509 · 08/04/2019 10:22

Oh open I forgot, he will eat grass mud and sand in any way shape or form.

he's not fussy with non edibles 😂

danni0509 · 08/04/2019 14:20

I'm glad I didn't count my chickens.. Grin

Ds has done 2 wees in his pants and had a wee and Pooh at the park since my last post this morning.

Par for the course I suppose.

One hour at a time GinGinGin

danni0509 · 08/04/2019 14:21

Might I add it wasn't on a toilet at the park either 😆

openupmyeagereyes · 08/04/2019 14:42

Oh danni 🍫
There will definitely be ups and downs so don’t get too despondent. I’m hoping it’s just a blip. Also it’s a way of them being in control isn’t it.

I remember one time when ds was training we went to the garden centre. Dh took ds outside to where they have a large selection of sheds & playhouses etc, which he loves to look at, while I had a look inside. A bit later I came to find dh completely flustered trying to clean up ds who had done a poo in his pants in one of the playhouses. We can laugh about it now, not so much at the time! He usually only poos once a day so thankfully those incidents were limited.

I’m glad he’s still eating better. I’m wishing for some improvement here, the majority of ds’s diet is made of wheat!

We went to soft play this morning. Ds was very good though channeling Blippi rather loudly if anyone has seen him on YouTube? We’re currently watching Pablo on Cbeebies which is about an autistic boy, though given how weird kids programmes are I’m not sure it’s massively obvious.

OP posts:
dimples76 · 08/04/2019 18:29

Open DS loves Blippi too - me not so much! We'll have to check out Pablo.

Danni I think it's fine to be sitting down. The OT at the most recent sensory course I went to said that it was very important that the children have their feet firmly planted on the floor or stool though.

I'm feeling a bit sorry for myself today. I was working earlier and then decided to take DS to the local play farm where we have an annual pass. When we got there we bumped into a group of ten families from DS's class - they looked v embarassed to see us. We have socialised with them all before. Guess our invite must have got in the post!

openupmyeagereyes · 08/04/2019 19:01

Oh dimples, I’m sorry Sad. It must really sting Wine Cake. Was your ds aware? I will brace myself for similar though. It’s bound to happen at some point.

Yes, I was a bit wtf when I saw him watching Blippi. As I am with a lot of stuff he watches tbh. Still, dh looked up Blippi and he seems to be a legit millionaire and it’s all harmless stuff. Ds loves the ones where he’s at soft play and I could hear him yelling out bits of dialogue today.

Pablo is a strange one, it’s mostly animation. It doesn’t say on the EPG that he’s autistic but I thought he was and Googled it.

DS kept saying 'I didn't know that you were going to be here' 'What are you all doing here?' - this started in quite happy, surprised tones but come repetition #10 it sounded more puzzled/worried - but that could have been me projecting....He was quite happy afterwards and settled to sleep well so I think (for now) the pain is more mine than his ...
I think a gin and tonic may be required now.
