Extra support for mildly non-statemented autistic?

My son is only mildly autistic, and apparently I can't easily get him statemented (we are trying anyway). He's 10 but we've only been in the UK for 2 years.. We had extra support at home that he qualified for in the States, where we are from but not sure what is available here?

His behaviour outside and in school is atrocious and I would love to know if there is anything we can do for him. It's becoming a strain, and not a happy household!

Not sure what you can expect in the way of local authority funded support. IME bugger all Can you contact your local support group - other parents have definitely been the best source of support and advice and info for me.

How lame am I, I don't even know how to find a local support group! I was up to my eyeballs in info back home but here I let things slide as life was "easier" when he got older - now things are harder again I need to get him some support. Do I start with the National Autistic Soceity?

It was PDD-NOS and then just "Autism".. but in my own opinion, it's a mild form..

I am in the South East, Kent - I would really appreciate a nose in the right direction!

He is almost not attending a school trip to Calais, first it was only if I went and then as I can't go (am a childminder) they said if he could stop swearing and "listen" he could go. It's definitely becoming an issue, I believe them when they say he is a danger to himself and others by not behaving.. It just sad really, and I want to get him some help.

That would be great, have done some digging and I think the next step is the Kent Autistic Trust - apparently something called the "Befriending Programme" too which I am interested in finding more about!
