P SCALES whoops sorry- anyone actually know what they mean?

I don't even know which way they go. Is it P5(worst) to P1 (best) or P1 to P5?

Is there an idiots guide somewhere? DS1's annual review thi week and as usual have a report with P scales marked down & I'm having my yearly feeling of guilt that I should at least be slighty interested in what they actually mean.

there is another thread with this topic too, gess......i don't fully understand them either but know it's lower than national curriculum levels......

Oh is there? Will search. I know they're below level 1. I'm half interested in comparing last years with this years. ON the other hand I probably won't get round to it (again!)

Hi

On www.dfes.gov.uk there is loads of info about p scales including exactly what each level means.

Hope this helps

I need to look at this too. DS2's new school keep mentioning them and I try to look as if I know what they're talking about...

P scales start at P1 (lowest) and go up to P8. Then it goes on to 1c/ 1b/1a of key stage 1. There are scales for reading/ writing/speaking and listening/ maths shapes/numbers /science/etc. You can download the description and use from www.qca.org.uk/8798.html then get into special needs p scales. Hope this helps.
