Quick background DS2 is 4 and has autism, very difficult to manage but not severe, mostly problems with behaviour, he was late to talk but talks the hind leg off a donkey now but he is not always appropriate iyswim and is very repetative. DD was 2 last week, very limited speech although she tries, she has tantrums, could be her age, she points and sort of babbles everything is 'dizzy' dogs cats etc, did say grandad last week quite clearly and when shown a pic of a shoe tries 's' sound. Anyway she points and takes me to what she wants nods and shakes her head when asked what she wants. My problem is she has started lining up her brothers cars, is this an indicator, ds2 always used to do it but not so much now so i donlt think she is copying. Any thoughts?

It could be an indicator, then again lots of nt children line things up at this age. I wouldn't be concerned about this unless there are other signs.

Mm perhaps i am worrying because of ds2 but then I would. It's that with the lack of speech and tantrums but they could be her age.

They certainly could be her age so try not to worry too much easier said than done i know.

i have three with autism my girls never lined things up but DS did he lined clarkes shoe shop window up once!i think lots of children line things up, it doesn't have to mean autism.

I will just have to give it some time and see how she develops i think, but you know, when you get that feeling, I had it with Jack for so long before he was dx.

2 of mine are AS...1 is considered 'on the spectrum'.

the eldest NEVER lined anything up as such.

the middle one did a bit.

but the youngest (the one NOT diagnosed) is 8 and STILL does. he once unwrapped 24 (2 finger) kitkats and snapped them into individual fingers...then lined them up from one end of a room- right through to another room....that was scary!
then another time took loads of baby wipes out of a pack and opened them into indiidual squares...then placed them like a grid on the dining table-then he did the thing of cars- lined up in colour groups and size order-boot to bonnet- in one straight single file line...

now he's 8...and though in very subtle ways...he still lines things up....he likes books in size order...video tapes a certain way ...when he helps me put fishfingers/sausages on the baking tray- he insists on lining them up- too close together (he hates gaps) and right against the edge of the tin....and gets very anxious if i try to rearrange them. He will go in the bathroom and rearrange everything 'his way'...size order again...and that means the next time i need disinfectant- its with the bubble baths.... and the shampoos are nest to the sanilav...i then sneakily put it all back...

Strangely the only time ds1 lined things up was during his first appointment with the Paed. Ds2 does it now and then but not often.

she has been lining up my cushions on my sofa this morning - she may be tiding up though the place is a tip.

My Hv has been to see dd and thought tongue tie but that is not the case unfortunately. Also she thinks the fact that dd falls over a lot is relevant. I thought it was just because she runs around a lot.
