Worried about my twins.

I have happy gorgeous twin DDS who have recently turned 5. They have a speech delay that has improved with lots of therapy -they have been going from 2 but they still find pro nouns and some social use of language hard. They had been under the early years intervention team while at nursery to look for other issues such as ASD traits (they also hand flapped and took a while to answer to their names and follow instructions but that is going now) but were discharged about a year ago with no diagnosis.
However my current worry is that they have started school and whilst are happy and love it their concentration at home has gone totally hay wire. I don't know if it is just cause they are whacked from working all day or if it's some form of regression. Watched them in swimming this morning and they were all over the place attention wise...like they were several years ago! They are happy, sleep well, play imaginatively, are very affectionate and eat a wide range of food I just sometimes feel that they don't quite click with the expectations of their age group. Full disclosure ..am a teacher and ex Senco...think this makes me worry more!! Just need experiences please

I'm not sure if this is particularly helpful as I do have concerns about my six year old too but no diagnosis. It's very common for him to be all over the place at home due to the demands of school. He is four days a week in year one and I have to be very careful of demands made on him number of outside classes etc. Being full-time in reception is massively demanding of a lot of children I think.

Hi Op, have you discussed your concerns with your gp? Writing down all your concerns and running them past you gp may help settle your fears a little.
Have school noticed any sort of regression?

Thanks,
They have just started reception (September birthdays) so haven't really talked to school about it yet. They were in the nursery there last year part time so have a salt review in October in school so I'm guessing will find out more then. I haven't been to see the gp as i did that before, then they were referred to Early Years Intervention and discharged so I'm not sure what they would do this time round. But I guess it's worth a try.I think they are very borderline and maybe not behind enough to make the threshold for lots of services...but I'm their mum and I worry!!!

They are very new to school then! Lots of new stimulation!
Like you said your there mum and you know if something isn't quite right. Go with your gut, and mention your concerns to salt and see what they have to say at review. I would perhaps also mention your concerns to there teacher so she can keep an eye on them.

To be brutally honest my experience is even if you do meet certain thresholds the services just aren't there anyway. Ds 8 is non verbal and salt doesn't bother with us at all anymore. You have to fight for everything, but im sure your well aware of that!

Thanks Spader, yeah I think that one of the problems is that cognitively they are totally fine can write name, count, recognise letters etc and their behaviour isn't disruptive in that they are badly behaved but more that they don't concentrate on things very well or use apporiate language sometimes. But because it isn't in your face obvious I feel they might be under the radar a bit. SAlT recently were really pleased with them but they are only in a group of 4...they are fine like that!
