So my DD just turned 2 she is currently in a cot and sleep fine in there (some nights wakes in the night every now and again) obviously at some point we need to put her in a toddler bed but when is the right time ??? The only problem I have is that she jumps up and down in her cot not sure if this is because she wants to get out or if it is a stimulation thing ( she loves jumping up and down and also does it when she goes #2) she's under a paediatrician with a severe speech delay but been told even though she has 'autistic traits' she thinks that's down to the speech delay..... anyway main question is, when should we get a toddler bed also should we put a stair gate on her door? ( there is one at the top of the stairs! Thanks Smile

I just went to a normal bed with my dd as I thought toddler beds were a waste of money. Ive never used stair gates either so cant answer on that but I did read they shouldnt be on top of the stairs anymore as they are more dangerous if a child tries to climb them then falls!

I am also having this dilemma with transition from cot to bed, my little boy is nearly 3, the problem I have is I know if I put him in a bed there is no way he will stay in it, and he's awake every night from around 2am till 6am so he would just be running around his bedroom, the other issue is though that he has started to literally throw himself out his cot he doesn't climb out he leans and goes head first, we have had a referral put in to the OT as they feel he may need a specialist bed, my little boy has no sense of danger and is waiting on an asd assessment, we currently have a mattress next to his cot for safety reasons. Also I would second that stair gates at the top of stairs are dangerous I have definitely heard this too, I'd say much better to have them on bedroom doors.
