ABA/VB tutors

I am really struggling at the moment to find tutors to work on DS2's home programme. We're in Somerset and have advertised at Bridgwater college, at BIBIC and at the University of the West of England near Bristol. I've also placed ads in the Gumtree mag for Bristol, Bath and Exeter, and on ABA-UK as well. I'm also planning to ring Exeter Uni tomorrow.

I've had some initial interest but once I've told people the hours ( minimum 6 per week, increasing in summer hols), they then don't pursue it any further. I'm sure the advert itself is fine (thanks to Gess} - just not sure what's going wrong. Perhaps students want full time jobs?

Would be grateful for any advice from those of you running ABA/VB programmes or anyone who lives in this area who might be able to suggest other places I could advertise.
(Peachy - I know you offered to ask around before, but I figured you have enough to worry about atm! Have lost your e-mail address in the move as well...)

Thanks everyone.

Is the minimum number of hours too much for students? Also what times? When talking to students I always make sure they know it's flexible (on both parts). I'm know you're running a more full time programme than me.

You may have more luck with Exeter as there'll be people wanting to do clinical psych there and they need experience. I used to (pre-GM) have someone travel to me from Exeter (with 5 years ABA experience- she was wonderful!)

How easy are you to get to? I'm within walking distance of a Uni which helps (but then see Exeter student- she came 40 miles). Can you make it easier for people to get to you? I used to pick up the Exeter person from the train station 90% of the time (and I paid her travel expenses- she bought a YP railcard, I refunded the tickets),

Hi Gess
I haven't mentioned hours at all on the original ad, but felt that I had to when they e-mailed asking for more details. I've stressed flexibility throughout. I'm not sure how many hours students are allowed to work - do you know?

We're nowhere near a university, either here or when we move to Street. There's the added problem that neither Street nor Glastonbury has a station! People we employ will really need a car, which is another potential difficulty.

Am feeling quite down about it. My mum has broken her foot, which means that I'm doing the programme single handedly atm - not good for me or DS2. But at least while we're here there are other adults around to look after DS1 when I'm involved with DS2. The prospect looms of being on my own in our new house throughout the school summer hols which means I won't be able to do the programme at all - can't leave DS1 to fend for himself while I'm shut in the play room! Can't tell you how much I miss L., DS2's lovely tutor in Sussex.

Doom and gloom, doom and gloom........

aww you do sound down. Will reply more later- why not put an ad on the free classified section of my website. A little more content and I'll start promoting it.

Can you have someone in your house to stay? Au pair? Or martianbisohop may know someone (SALT student) looking for summer experience. I can ask her if she doesn't see this.

Good idea - hadn't thought of your website. Please do ask MB - and anyone else you know!

Am feeling a little more hopeful - have just had a nice conversation with a man who's doing a Masters at UWE in September and wants p/t work. Doesn't solve the June-Sept problem but if it works out at least I can tell people I have a manny .

Just bumping this in case anyone's not seen it.
