Dyslexia Saturday/holiday school south London

I'm an experienced specialist dyslexia teacher (and assessor) and am thinking of setting up a Dyslexia Saturday School because of huge demand for individual tuition. Seems to make sense to combine groups of 4-6 students instead of turning down individuals because of lack of availability? Any interest?
(I'm on the British Dyslexia Association list of approved tutors and am APC, AMBDa accredited.)
Thanks

Hi, my ds is now sorted for support.

I'm just posting here to ask a question regarding the idea, wouldn't it be very hard to teach them in groups when they have different aspects of dyslexia as their main issues?

I would think that a teacher ratio of 1:6 would be far too high to get results with only one support lesson a week?

My son went to a specialist school with a ratio of 1:8 and had amazing results but this was because they were taught 5 days a week in all lessons by specialists in all classes.

Prior to that (while he was young) he made amazing progress 1:1 with a specialist tutor once or twice a week. I can't imagine that he would have progressed anywhere near as much in the early years in a group of 6.

Anyway just asking your thoughts.

Thanks for your thoughts on this idea. I'm so glad you got such great help for your son and that it all worked so well for him. Nothing really replaces full time specialist support or indeed 1:1 help I agree but my dyslexia Saturday school does not aim to replace these - just hopefully add another resource of support (as I regularly turn down students because of lack of capacity). Of course ages, aspects of dyslexia, temperament, and just logistics do make the offer complicated but still worthwhile I hope. I have had lots of positive interest verbally and parents offer some great suggestions too as to how it can work. I'm always interested in hearing anyone's thoughts! My biggest problem at the moment is securing the right premises. Grrr. As for ratios, I might work alongside a friend of mine if necessary - we have worked well together many times. In schools, I have taught up to 6 children in groups once a week and had some great results (although I hate to use the word 'results' - I mean that the children have shown clear progression and loved the activities!) The Saturday school would be for 2.5 hours a week. I met an old colleague for lunch last week who has a grown up son with dyslexia and I told her about the Saturday School idea and she said: "I so wish there had been something like that for H when he was younger. Makes me sad." I'm remembering her words as I try to make this happen!
I do hope your son continues to progress and prosper.
Thanks again for your thoughts.
