Does anyone else's ASD/ADHD child pace?

Ds is trying to watch Spiderman at the moment but he just can't keep still!
We are waiting for a referral to assess whether he is ADHD but he's wearing a hole in the floor!
Is it possible that this is a behaviour thing from his ASD or is it just that he can't keep still?

J (AS, 8 yo) can't sit still either. He literally bounces off walls while he's talking to you, circles the bathroom when he's getting dressed (often climbing and jumping off the bath or toilet), very rarely can sit still to watch a tv programme or movie (we're constantly telling him to move out the way so we can all see). Sometimes he literally climbs up the furniture backwards. I think it's an emotional/excitement thing because it's more likely when he's watching something that gets him going, less an issue watching something slower paced. ADHD has been mentioned vaguely and I do think it could be a factor, but I also know of other AS children who do this so maybe it's a feature of that too. Funnily enough he's not so bad in the cinema, though he has had his moments.

He can rarely walk in a straight line when we're out too. Often does this kind of skipping thing sideways, even in busy shopping centres or supermarkets. Again, this is often associated with a trip somewhere interesting but just as likely around Asda.

Interesting. Ds always has to swap hands when we walk. First he's one side then the other and back again, don't know why, maybe it alters his view?
He's always up and down the furniture, climbs on sideboards, tables etc, in and out of doors and he drives me barmy!
His latest is climbing in the bath and onto the sink so he can see out of the bathroom window!

J is currently lying across the dining table avoiding his tea (sigh). At least he's at the table and I'm not chasing him around the house ...

Lost count of the number of times he's pulled the towel rail off the wall in the bathroom. He just doesn't seem to realise he's hanging off it, it just kind of happens.

Here's a recent example: He still has his own bedroom at his Gran's, although he hasn't stayed overnight there in a long time. It's still referred to as 'J's room' but Gran does the ironing in there now, keeps the board up all the time. J usually disappears up there to read comics when we visit. Couple of weeks ago Gran went up and found him lying full stretch along the ironing board reading the Beano. He looked hideously uncomfortable too.

About the swapping hands thing - J is similar in that he'll hold hands for half a second then let go, then grab on again, and again and again. It's like he can't make up his mind, it ends up like hand hokey-cokey.

Ah well, at least life is never dull!
