Speech therapist in Leicestershire?

I want to have my son privately assessed. This will be a one time only thing, so I really want to get my money's worth. I don't have a car, so bus and train accessable would be good. He's four, so need to be small child friendly.

I'm going to keep looking anyway, but I trust Team Mumsnet's judgement, so thought I'd ask here!

ASLTIP website (www.helpwithtalking.(I think - org.uk). they should be willing to come to you. they will have local listings on that site, and so you can see who specialises in kids. they should be willing to chat on the phone to you before you commit yourslef, so you can get a feel for how child friendly they are.

Do you know if you can use a private SALTs report at a state primary school? Or if the NHS SALT service have to know about it (scared they will take his entitlement away, and really can't afford to go private!)

I feel that his speech therapist is not tuned into young children. Plus he has a borderline attention disorder. The SALT he sees says that if I'm not going to give him ritalin there is no point looking anny further into it with him

As I understand it, it's usual to keep the NHS SALT appointments even if you go private, as the NHS people are "in the system" in the way the private ones aren't. I don't think there will be a risk of them taking his entitlement away. Don't know very much about schools though as DS isn't at that stage yet. I imagine from a professional point of view the private SALT would want the NHS SALT to have a copy of their findings.

Thanks for that MTS.
