My son who is just 2, was seen by the developmental paediatrician who confirmed what we suspected- that DS is autistic. We don't know too much yet- what level it is etc. He wont be diagnosed until later.

He is lovely and gorgeous I'm so lucky to have him. He's cheerful and funny and very energetic. I wrote my first thread on the development board.www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=8&threadid=318615&stamp=070526180001

Since he has been on fish oils, just for 4 weeks now, he has improved more than in the last 3 months. I cant say it is down to the fish oils it may be he's having a sudden spurt, but I will carry on using them. He still has days when he is almost completely unresponsive but the overall picture is good.

His language however, appears to be getting worse. He babbles a lot and appears to be saying things but its completely unrecognisable except dadda and bubba and maybe some others which aren't used in context.

Waiting on the NHS SALT to come through. How much can SALTs do with a child that doesn't seem to want to talk? I'm looking at different things to try right now. ABA, homeopathy, PECS, Hanen etc anyone had any success with any of these?

www.pecs.org.uk/

This is the home page (the very lovely Theresa on the far right of the picture has done a lot of training in our area and been to my house for dinner!)
Go to Training workshops. What you must start with is a two day workshop (if that is the route you will take.) A salt could teach you the basics but only a course will really make you understand properly.I insist that all the staff (and parents if they choose) I work with have PECS training. PECS is based on ABA principles so the two link wonderfully.

Hello! my ds (aspergers, posting a lot about him today) never had a speech delay but is still pretty unitelligible a lot. Good luck!

I really need your help. The casein free diet seems to be having a really bad effect on my son. I know withdrawal symptoms etc may account for it but its been over a week now. He seems to be getting worse everyday. He's even started having behavioural issues. He keeps squeezing and slapping my head and pulling my hair and it really hurts. I know he's only 2 but he's very strong and big for his age. People always say he looks nearer three. Anyway not only that the words that he was using have now disappeared again. He seems uninterested in anything I try to do with him. His concentration level is right down and finally he is still having tantrums. He also getting diarrhoea. I don't know if he may reacting to the soya milk or readjusting to the Gluten. Each day is getting hard. He was so difficult last night it was like he was on something. He was laughing hysterically for no reason and running around like a loony. That went on for ages. In the end I had to restrain him and then he was throwing his head back. I'm seriously confused and worried that I may be making him worse. Any advice?
