Morning all!

Dd has some SEN, no allocated 1-1 or
EHCP. She is in Yr 2.

She works within focus groups and school have been very supportive. We do wonder if she would benefit from more 1-1 support and perhaps EHCP. I can see she has struggled more academically this year and am a little concerned about KS2.

Her report shows she is working within expected year group levels, so above foundation for subjects, but not reached expected end of year levels or exceeded.

She got 0% for her reading SAT. She can read quite well, perhaps a little slowly at times, but anxiety took over. She perhaps found questions tricky to understand.
School did put in place reasonable adjustments to help her feel at ease, as they saw how anxious she was in the practice assessments they carried out.

Her Maths is at 98% scaled score for SAT, so I believe 100% means reached end of KS1 expectations, so not quite reached.

I believe she has reached expected level in science and PE. Reading, writing and maths, not so much.

So whilst this isn’t horrendous, would this help us to get EHCP at all and do u think good idea going forward into KS2. Dd cannot always vocalise when having difficulties, struggles with anxieties, sensory issues, poss high functioning autism.

I know school and psychologist said u cannot apply for EHCP over future concerns, Consultant Paed seemed to disagree a little and saw our point of view.

What can we do to help our little one going forward as work ramps up and looking towards end KS2/into secondary school.

It would be hard to get an EHCP over future concerns as they can only go off what is presenting at the time.

There is no reason you can’t apply yourself for an EHCP, although it does sound as if she is making progress so you would need to be able to show why/how she needs extra support than what is being given.

I would suggest try to focus on the “here and now” rather than worrying about what’s ahead is that is impossible to predict

As pp said it's very difficult to get an EHCP as she's making progress . My ds 4 is not working any where near expected age range. He's considerably lower but because he is making some progress they won't agree to a EHCP. We took it all the way to tribunal as well.

Both mine have ehcps. They’re harder to get. You would need good strong evidence. You can apply yourself but to get assessed as long as you could show your dc has some form of Sen legally they should assess.

Thank you. Perhaps it’s just keep a close eye on how she gets on again this year, and ensuring they continue to offer sufficient support, along with ourselves to of course.
