I have only just finished Ds' renewal form, his DLA runs out at the end of july, will this be enough time..?? shit!!

Yes, it will be. I applied for DS's new DLA (we'd let it lapse) on 25 April and got the full reply last week. They'll have treated it as a new form altogether. Also, I remember when we let it lapse that we got lots of reminders to renew it, really lots.

sparklygothkat · 21/05/2007 23:44

will they treat it as a new claim?? Shit I have a car on mobility

sparklygothkat · 21/05/2007 23:57

I know I should have returned it sooner, but RL got in the way a bit, was finding it hard to get someone to sign the bloodly thing, and having 2 disabled kids makes it harder anyway I am scared they will take my car...

No, no, we'd let it lapse completely for a couple of years, just too upset to re-new it, esp as DS's DLA money was very little at the time. That's why I think they've treated it as a new claim. If you've sent your form in you have plenty of time till the end of July. That's 10 weeks or so away. We got our new one in 3 weeks.

sparklygothkat · 22/05/2007 00:03

I see, I know DD1's award came through within 4 weeks last time, but they always seem to question DS' DLA form! yet he is the one that is more severely affected, and needs more help

sunflowervalley · 22/05/2007 00:06

HI ,may I ask how often it is renewed please?

CristinaTheAstonishing · 22/05/2007 00:07

Perhaps they are being extra cautious for bigger awards. Or imagine children grow out of their disabilities over time?

sparklygothkat · 22/05/2007 00:07

First time we got it for 2 years, then 5 years last time, hoping for longer this time, as DS has Cerebral palsy and is never going to get better

OP posts:
CristinaTheAstonishing · 22/05/2007 00:08

I think DS's was renewed after the first 2 years but I can't remember.

sparklygothkat · 22/05/2007 00:08

DS and DD1 both get high rate care and mobility. They changed DS' award last time from middle to high rate

OP posts:
sparklygothkat · 22/05/2007 00:11

will be posting the form off tomorrow.. hope it long enough... fingers crossed. I worry in case they deny him this time

OP posts:
CristinaTheAstonishing · 22/05/2007 00:12

I don't see how, it would be totally irrational to go from the highest component to nothing. Good luck, I'm sure it will be fine.

sparklygothkat · 22/05/2007 00:15

i panic in case I get someone in a mood that day lol!! His teacher signed it in the end for me, she was very happy to do it as she knows the problems DS encounters daily, she said that she doesn't mind doing DLA forms for children that really need it

OP posts:
sunflowervalley · 22/05/2007 00:22

Thanks

sparklygothkat · 22/05/2007 11:50

have posted it, please renew it...

OP posts:
mymatemax · 22/05/2007 22:13

Good luck, I know ds2's renewal will be dropping through the door shortly.
He has CP & I'm convinced they will try & drop from high to middle mobility just because they can when he turns 5!
I hope you get your full award without a fuss.

sparklygothkat · 22/05/2007 22:22

DS is 9 and we have been getting high rate mobility since he was 4 (when the rule change came in) He also has CP.

OP posts:
mymatemax · 22/05/2007 22:29

Sparkly, do you mind me asking, is your ds mobile?

sparklygothkat · 22/05/2007 22:41

course I don't mind, he is mobile, but can't walk distances or for long period of time. He walks very slow too.

OP posts:
mymatemax · 22/05/2007 22:43

same here, uses major buggy most of the time outdoors, still falls over alot.

sparklygothkat · 22/05/2007 22:46

he used to fall lots as he tried to run, but now he is older he has slowed right down. It takes us 10 minutes to walk from the car in the staff carpark at school to his classroom, all the little 3 and 4 year old zoom pass him.

DS has modarate asymatical(sp?) spastic diplegia CP (left more than right) with his hands mildly affected but with hypermobile joints, which is doubly hard for him as everything is working against each other

OP posts:
mymatemax · 22/05/2007 22:58

ds has spastic diplegia too (right more than left) & hypermobility upper body & generalised low tone so has a very weak grip & poor trunk muscles so gets very tired.
His walking has improved but now his friends have moved on from that toddler stage they leave him standing & again the gap in physical abilities seems to be bigger.
Although strangely he can climb very well?

sparklygothkat · 22/05/2007 23:01

wow I have never met another mum with a child with CP AND hypermobility. please to meet you!!

OP posts:
sparklygothkat · 22/05/2007 23:03

Great ormond street love seeing DS as he is not a regular 'Spastic Diplegic CP' case
