Today went to cahms for what I assumed to be my son's ASD assessment... But oh no it's yet another bloody 'initial assessment' to see if he still needs assessing..... 2 year +wait. We have been waiting 2 years already (Surrey services all moved over to cahms and were added to waiting list).

He will be in secondary school at this rate with no ehcp again surrey it's hard enough to get one with a DX let alone without.

He has seen dozens of people from lots of services who all agree he has ASD but has to wait 2+ more years for a DX on paper which will probably mean he will miss out on the secondary school best suited for him and be left to fail without the support he desperately needs. As well as primary have said they can't afford to keep things currently in place without the extra funding from an ehcp.

I am so upset and angry right now...

It was also mentioned the Dr. Who DX my other 2 is now in private practice and a private assessment would be around £2000 and would take place in the next few weeks...money we just don't have :(

Who can I complain to???

'noted many traits of ASD behaviour' is not enough for an ehcp.

His twin has been refused an ehcp already despite having a DX of autism(appeal underway)...the school have said although they will apply for him,, here is no chance of getting one without a diagnosis. And the only way of getting a diagnosis in place before we apply for secondary school for him would be to put us in debt of 2k + for a private assessment done by the same dr.that assessed his twin his sister and told me that he has ASD years ago

He has been under peads for 3 years but because of the massive failings of Surrey children's services he now has to wait another 2 years

He has a full time 121teaching assistant (including over break times), movement breaks taught outside the classroom when needed has Lego therapy, attends friendship groups. Has safe supervised spaces to go to over break and lunch when the playground is too much. Different agencies have been in to assess him salt, ot, phycologist...etc. all have attempted to put in statagies to help him cope better, with limited success.

His school is massively supportive of him.... His twin has all the above and still can be violent against staff and pupils - still ehcp denied him as school are coping (they are but only because of the amount of funding they are using just to keep everyone safe and able to access learning) school have said they can't keep providing this level of support without additional funding.
They have trialed him Without some of the extra support... He assaulted a teacher the class had to be evacuated and he was in meltdown mode for hours growling under tablesor flinging them and was excluded for a couple of days. With the support he is a valued member of the class and able to access learning.

We're in Surrey.... Children's services are failing massively. I believe they have now been handed over to the government to attempt to deal with so fingers crossed thing might change...

I have yet to personally meet anyone in Surrey who got an ehcp for their child on the first attempt... without appeal after appeal and reapplying.
