Dc is year 10, after 8 years of battles they have finally seen a Ed Psych, report not back yet but have been told that dc scores have come back very very low and learning problems are severe

Along with all this we are battling anxiety and school refusal/lesson refusal

I have been told that there is not legal requirement of any gcse and schools must have a alternative provision in place for students unable to access gcse

But school are telling me that dc must do all gcse as they are a mainstream school.

Is this right? Where can I find out the actual law on this as google not throwing up any help

You could call your local SENDIS service (formally parent partnership) or try ipsea.org.uk. I don't know the arrangements for maintained schools but I can't believe there's a "law" because laws apply to everyone and my son is taking Btec instead of gcse and functional skills and no GCSEs at all. There are definitely access arrangements available in every school.

There is no 'law' about having to do GCSEs even in a mainstream school. Most schools will offer a range of qualifications for pupils with a range of attainment.

My son is about to start y11in a mainstream school. He has dropped two GCSE as he was not going to grade in them.
