ASD assessment, finally. But what to expect?

It’s been a long road and still a long road to go but DD’s paediatrician has finally suggested refering DD, again for an assessment.

DD is now 13 and I fear too late to gain a formal diagnosis in time to get her the help she needs in school before it’s time for her to leave but I believe a diagnosis will help her in herself anshe to be assessed.

I don’t know what to expect once the assessment starts. I’m assuming it’s a long process with lots of appointments? Should I take a diary of examples with me (it would be long!) or do I go with the flow, or am I not involved now seeing as DD is a teen?

We had a session with a consultant paediatrician for a list of questions, 2 sessions for my DS with a psychologist - cognitive tests then social communication tests, then another session with the paediatrician and psychologist. Took about a year. Still awaiting the report. Our DS is 12. I’ve phoned around re support services, and thinking of requesting a EHP from the council.
