Hello,
My daughters school have said they think my DD has dyspraxia which confirms suspicions we've had for a while. School said to maddie an appointment with our GP to get the ball rolling for an assessment. DD is 6 and I'm not sure how to handle this visit to the GP. shes very anxious and her confidence is at rock bottom due to the problems shes experiencing at school so I don't want her to think that its anything bad or that she has something "wrong" with her. Has anyone got any advice? Thank you x

I wrote a comprehensive list of all of the behaviours and difficulties that I was concerned about. I gave this to the GP to read. This meant that my DS (who was eventually dx with ASD) did not have to sit and listen to me reel off a list of all of his struggles. This also meant that I did not forget anything.

Your DD may feel quite relieved at the idea that her brain works a little differently. You do not need to frame it in terms of there being anything wrong with her, just that she may be able to access some help to make things that she finds difficult easier.

My DD has ADHD and dyspraxia. I didn't take her to the GP when I asked for the referral; just went on my own. The school wrote a letter to the GP with their observations as well as the SENCO said that often GPs take more notice of a third party than the parents.
