ASD (aspergers traits poss) - rudeness in public

Just wondering if anyone has experienced this at all. As soon as we are in public, Dd (almost 7) starts to talk to us in the most awful way, horrendous. It’s like a switch turns on. She is quite hyper and impulsive too. Anyone experience this with ASD/adhd at all? Everyone must think she’s a right brat lol, which makes me sad. We can’t go anywhere without people staring at us for her behaviour.

Do you think it’s an anxiety response? If she does it while you’re out but not at home? Does she show other signs of anxiety while you’re out and about?

My DD can come across very abrupt and “rude” at times. I gently prompt her every single time to rephrase it, by calmly asking “How can you say that nicely?” This has really helped but it’s taken a long time.

You could always do what one parent I've heard of does. When people stare or make comments, she says:
"My son is autistic. What's your problem?"

She's little! All small children can find it hard to behave in the societally expected way in public. My DS is older, but he gets very anxious with new people and surroundings and can then be hyper, clingly, shouty, silent etc. Anything could happen.

Try to develop a thick skin. I mostly remember that I will never see the judgy person from the bus/supermarket/whatever again, so what they think doesn't matter.
