Just posted on a zombie thread and recommended I re post...

Ds been having issues in Reception and now has 1 on 1 support. We've no idea what his problem is so...

A few months ago we went to a private educational psychologist who was recommended. She met us twice, didn't meet my ds at all. Not once. Spoke to school on phone for 10 mins and diagnosed parenting issues. School dont think it is parenting, but he exhibits attachment issues. We have an older dd who is thriving and is flying through school. So we are back to square one. School don't think it's parenting or adhd but on not experts .. ..they are surprised and annoyed they are no nearer support so they are now finally seeking help directly... we think, not definite. But we feel further than ever from.support!

Someone mentioned I should report Ed Psychologist.

We've complained already but they just fobbed us off.

Does this sound right??

I would absolutely expect an education psychologist to observe your child - particularly in the education setting itself. Especially if you are paying privately for the report.
I'm not sure what recourse you have though.

Do you only have concerns regarding him educationally, or do you also have other development / emotional / social concerns? If so you could request a referral to a development paediatrician through your GP and to to access some guidance that way too.
Unfortunately waiting lists are generally quite lengthy.

What areas is he finding most difficult at school?

It's mostly social stuff but with adhd traits. He overwhelms other children and lashes out too. He can concentrate if he wants so they don't think adhd but no actual doctor has seen him. His emotions overwhelm him. He refuses to discuss them. I don't think it's just our shitty parenting for want of a better word. When I look at him there is definitely some brain disconnect going on. He's desperate to understand relationships and getting more and more frustrated. He's now refusing to do learning too. Hrs fairly bright though and quick to pick up concepts. He loves learning outside of classroom...if he wants to!

I definitely think push for an assessment with a paediatrician.
My son has ASD, with a PDA profile. He now has an ECHP with full time 1:1 - life at school was very tough before that because he was frequently overwhelmed and lashed out.

As part of an EHCP assessment you should get an EP assessment, plus also an SLT and OT if requested.
Despite being extremely eloquent, my DS needs a lot of SLT input as his actual understanding is very poor (eg inferred meanings, facial expressions, the art of conversation, sarcasm, social etiquette).
He frequently misinterprets things and gets himself into hot water.

He's also very demand avoidant and it takes a great deal of skilled input to get to him do any learning - even tho autism outreach team have found it challenging. He follows a bespoke curriculum around his interests (but with same learning objective as the rest of his class) and also spends some of the week in a Forest School.
This is all through his EHCP.

I can't stress how much understanding him and the right strategies play a vital part in him staying in mainstream school for now.

I recommend The Explosive Child book if you haven't already read it.

Read up on PDA - I'm not saying this is what he has, but that strategies might be useful for both you and school.

Apply for an EHCP yourselves (rather than school).
Keep a diary.
Take the reigns of control from school (eg, get the names of who they are referring him to and timescales and then chase them yourself)

This is splurge of things while I think of them!

Thank you.

That all sounds very familiar. We are seeing the SENCO next week (finally!)... this gives me some things to mention...
