Help! Full-time nursery for dyspraxic child or not?

DD1 will be 4 in June.

She's dyspraxic and in speech and occupational therapy and we've started the DLA process so she can also get support at school.

Right now, she goes to nursery in the afternoons for 2 hours a day.

She loves it.

But she tires very easily.

She's been offered a full time place to begin in August, but I'm waffling, tbh.

Nursery has brought her on, and she really loves playing with the other children, but she is soooo wiped out by the end of the week just with that.

And she likes to sleep late.

Should we go for it?

I don't know any other dyspraxic children for comparison, but because she has a June birthday and Scotland has no January reception she won't start regular school till she is 6.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Hi Expat
Could you increase her hours gradually & see how she copes? Maybe do 1 or 2 full days, if she's asleep by lunchtime you know its too much!

I think I'd do what mymatemax suggested, gradually increase it up and see how she copes. My DD used to be shattered and go to sleep at 6.30pm when she was 4 but now at 8 isn't anywhere near so tired, though she can't do as much physical activity as some of my friend's children without being totally wiped out. I think at your DD's age she would have struggled to cope with a full time placement but coped very well when she started reception full time when she was 5, much better than I thought she would.

Hi

I have just found out that DS1 is dyspraxic about 2 weeks ago which I suppose answers quite a lot of our concerns that we had.

His birthday is November and he started school at 4.5, we too are in Scotland.

OT is already on the case for additional supports etc to be in place for him in school.

If she starts school at 4.5 hopefully OT will have arrange all the necessary supports she requires.
