DD has always struggled with pain when walking longer distances or walking fast, uphill etc (suspected CP). She's now 8 and really out growing a buggy. Currently waiting delivery on a wheelchair which will be for those longer days out when she simply can't manage the walking. However, whilst she is happy to go in a buggy, she is adamant she is not going to use a wheelchair. Whilst I don't want to force it on her, I know she simply can't always manage - yesterday we were 15 minutes in a shop with a friend and she was on the floor crying as her legs hurt - and feel long term it is a better solution that a bigger special needs buggy as she can learn to wheel herself and be independent, rather than needing me to push her. She is not at all happy at the idea of people she knows seeing her in a wheelchair and I really do sympathise and understand her point of view. Any tips on helping her accept the idea? At first we are just going to keep it at home so she can learn how to use it and get confident, but I have no idea how I am going to get her to accept using it out of the house.
