Wondering if anyone can offer advice , my son who is non verbal and has severe autism returned home from school on Monday after to a trip to the woods with severe burn like wounds to his right leg . School nurse said they believed it was cause by his wellies rubbing and only noticed when changing him at 3pm . We have since been seen by the plastics team at hospital who have said that the skin on his leg has now turnt black and will never grow back leaving him permanently scarred he may also require future skin grafts . Apart from the school nurse I have had no contact with the school to enquire how he his or give any explanation. the hospital have involved the safeguarding team as they are not convinced with the schools welly theory . I was wondering what my next step should be as obviously I do not want him to return to the school but I am aware that changing is not that easy , also who can I make a complaint too ? I would really some to be out accountable for this

Gosh!

I am sorry to hear your poor son has gone through this.

I would get in touch with your son’s SW ASAP Monday morning. Not sure about protocol in this situation? I wonder if the NSPCC would be able to advise you?

I understand you would be unhappy for him to return at the moment especially as no reasonable explanation has been offered but will you manage if he ends up with no school placement for an extended period of time?
