Have finally contacted SS to ask for dd to go on the disability register and for an assessment of need. Who knows if it will be worth it but am hoping to get direct payments (ha ha! scepticle emoticon)

Does anyone have any advice/tips on what to say or questions to ask? Am assuming its a bit like DLA forms and you have to lay it on thick...

I dont understand this 'direct payments' thing. What is it? and how do you get them?

sorry have most probably confused the thread now. i just havent a clue about it all.

As for SS the only contact I have had with them is for a trip trap chair and they only actually delivered it, so i dont know much

I don't know much about it Fio2 - hoping to find out more when they see us. But as I understand it rather than them providing certain things you can ask for direct payments instead, mostly I think to help pay for care for your child. I think davros knows more. Or hopefully someone more clued up than us will post on here!

I do but just rushing out to swimming and then to "ABA expert" presentation. Will post tomorrow morning.

HITC I've just applied for an assessment too. I've got some forms to fill in this weekend and the SW comes for the second time on Monday. I'll write more on this post tonight when it is less hectic. x

I aksed SS for direct payments weeks ago. a SW assistant came out to do an initial assessment, said I should be eligible and I haven't seen or heard from her since. Got so fed up trying to chase them that I gave up. If I haven't heard towards the end of the year I will chase them again. Someone did tell me that if you request a core/care (??) assessment they have to do it within a week (by law). They seem to ignore that rule down here though.
