I’ve name changed as I this is a situation which may be identifying. This may be long - sorry.

DH and I moved with our two DCs, DS9 and DD3, from the city to the countryside last year. Just before our move, DS was privately diagnosed with Aspergers, ADHD, dyslexia and dyspraxia following a long history of behavioural issues. While it was a relief to have a label for his problems, it also opened up a whole lot of other issues regarding his schooling.

DS was happy at his new school for the first two weeks, then things started to go downhill. Two boys in his class started to bully him (his first experience of bullying) and are still bullying him to this day.

DS, who already had epilepsy, started displaying epilepsy-like symptoms a couple of months after joining his new school. To cut a long story short, he was diagnosed with non-epileptic seizures which a brought on by extreme stress.

I have had multiple meetings with the school regarding the bullying, about the school providing him with a computer as his writing is, on days, illegible, about providing him with a visual timetable so he knows what is happening in the day amongst other things. Nothing. It has been nearly one year and nothing has changed.

He is off school at the moment because his non-epileptic seizures have returned and he is hallucinating heavily.

I wrote to the school last week asking for a meeting. They have yet to provide a date. I am going to ask to a meeting again tomorrow but I’m raging. If you promise something, you deliver. I don’t understand why I have to be chasing people to do their jobs. I know teaching is hard, and I know this from personal experience, but I can put my hand in my heart and say I always went above and beyond for each pupil I taught and always delivered on what I promised. I wish someone could do the same for my son.

I am so sorry you are having such trouble. I think the only way forward when you do get a meeting is to ask for one person (maybe a TA) to have responsibility for your son. It should be someone he feels able to go to and who can oversee the quite reasonable provision you are asking for. Make sure you get everything down in writing from the school signed and dated. Then ask for a half termly meeting to update you. I wish you the best of luck. If you get nowhere consider writing to the local authority and chair of governors.
