ED PSYCH -it just gets worse

LAst month an Ed Psych went into nursery, observed dd and concluded that she didnt need asessing for a statutory asessment (no one told us she was going in, no phonecall,no report nothing)
We had to ask nursery for a copy of the report.
So of course me being mrs complainer letter writer when its anything to do with the kids i wrote to her asking her basically what she was playing at, why she hadnt thought it necessary to contact us as dd,s paents and if she is going to contact the CDC -as she said in her letter, then she should run it by us first.
so i got this back:

i did indeed visit dd in nursery, i did not undertake any asessments but carried out a lengthy observation. We sent these observatios in a report to nursrey on 8march, we do not as an EP service routinely send consultation forms or reports directly to parents but ask nursery staff to share the content with parents, i believe I has now done this and apologised to you for any delay.
I have written to Dr XX to let her know of my involvementwith dd and have also spoken to XXX XXXXX EP at the CDC. She has suggested that, since dd is an a XXXX setting it would be appropriate for me to attend the next CDC review. I have received a copy of the SLT report. I plan to observe dd again when i next visit the nursery on the afternoon of 8 may. i am happy to meet with you at the end of the nursery session if you wish to do so.

right, there are a few things im not happy about.
1, i have never heard of an EP not contacting parents for their opinions regarding their child
2, she has contacted the CDC and we havent asked her to do that
3, on her report she said she had no concerns re dd,s social and communication development and that she "may" have a language delay MAY? even the HV picked up on that and she,s an EP and hasnt picked it up
4, we have called a halt to all asessments on dd in the nursery as she is having a lot of medical investigations and we dont feel it is fair for her.

5, this woman is not just an EP she,s the head of the EP service, the principal and a Doctor at that, what is she playing at?

whew, rant over, i feel better now

I would certainly agree with electra's second paragraph about these people having their own agenda.

DS's original EP at preschool certainly did. She once told me that if I was to place a request for a statement across her desk she would refuse it!.

Fast forward now to Infants reception year. New EP takes one look at DS when she comes into observe and says, "he needs statementing". We got a statement for DS granted at the beginning of year one.

Am appalled that this EP has not seen a need for a Statutory assessment for your DD. On what grounds exactly, this person is no doubt under pressure from her employers the LEA to reduce the number of statements issued. That assertion of hers will have to be challenged.

That all sounds very wrong, Jenk.

They're supposed to ask for your permission to visit your child. You also have every right to be there while the EP is carrying out their observation.

Whenever we have had reviews at the CDC we are always asked if it's okay if someone else attends the meeting. They can't just invite themselves along. It's your child and you have every right to say that you don't want other people in the room while you are discussing confidential matters.

We were sent a copy of the EP's report. On the front it has a note saying something along the lines of "If anyone not on the cc list would like to copy this report then they must get written permission from either the parents or the EP. This report is sent in confidence to the parents and LEA." Sending a copy to the nursery and not to you is very wrong IMHO.
