Just after some advice. DD 6 is in mainstream school. Diagnosed with asd. School seem to be struggling with her behaviour and yesterday in a meeting with the senco it was suggested that my daughter may have ADHD. Now I know nothing about ADHD other than it has a bit of a stigma (sorry really hope I don't offend anyone this is absolutely not my thoughts just from things I've heard/read) that I'm worried about her being diagnosed with it. Will it make a difference? If she already has an asd diagnosis will an ADHD one make any difference as she already receives help? Basically wondering if an extra diagnosis is needed?

The difference is that she will probably be prescribed stimulant drugs if diagnosed with ADHD. I would speculate that whoever mentioned it may have considered that. Please forgive my cynical nature!

Stimulant medication doesn't always work with asd. This sounds just like our DS. He takes Intuniv, non stimulant which also helps with the behaviours driven by anxiety

Can you tell me more about intuiv? DS1 is ASD and possibly also ADHD and if we do Medicate I am concerned it might not work.

Intuniv (guanifacine) is also used to treat blood pressure. It has benefits for ASD and ADHD, reduced anxiety and hyperactivity

Friend has dual diagnosis. We are waiting for middle ds who diagnosed asd to have qb test for adhd. Stimulants quite often don't have the desired effects on asd kids with adhd. But there are some good non stims.

My eldest is adhd only diagnosis and has had great results on stimulants. Honestly I was more devistated with asd diagnosis that middle ds received than adhd diagnosis. I found adhd much easier to deal with with good medication, diet and exercise regime
