Not sure how I feel about this. I'm obviously aware something isn't right with him but I'm not sure if it's autism, I'm not in denial or trying to suggest anything the CHAMS authorities have said. Maybe I wasn't expecting it and thought it would be the start of another paper trail, chasing another diagnosis.

Anyway. Just wondering where we go from here no he has this diagnosis confirmed. He goes to special school, settled fine.

I want to know what rights me and my son have now it's confirmed Autism diagnosis.
What help can my son get as
To DLA and any other financial support... Do I get any extra 'rights' / help at work regarding time off and how do I go about it? I work shifts in a factory, and I know my son hasn't immediately changed due to today's news I just want to know what has changed to help support him now.

This is like opening a brand new door with corridors behind it and I don't quite know which way to turn.

I will not ignore any comments mate, I appreciate advice from people who have a view on this, I will be checking back intermittently.

Much appreciate your feedback

Nothing really changes - not many things actually require a diagnosis as much as evidence of a disability but the diagnosis is good evidence of a disability. It sometimes opens doors to autism-specific services such as autism outreach services for school or autism societies. Mostly it gives you a better understanding of your child.

Nothing changes, there is no magic wand or services which open up, you are still on your own and left to fight.
DLA isn't based on disability but need in comparison to others of the same age and evidence of this, definatly apply though a diagnoses can be used as evidence.

As others have said there's no changes. You can apply for DLA and then if you get middle rate care - carers allowance if you earn under a certain amount after private pension and child care deductions.

As far as I'm aware you don't get any extra rights at work. Everyone has right for time off to deal with emergencys but its usually unpaid.
