Hello

I am trying to find a nice developmental toy for a 12mnth old little girl with DS. I'm have no imagine imagination when it comes to choosing presents, and the little girl already has an older sister, so there are already alot of girly toys. She isn't crawling yet and has hearing difficulties.

Thanks

Hi, Loads of good suggestions from SK I se. My DD3 has DS and trying to remember back to when she was 12 months, I think she had only been sitting unsupported for a month and was like a 6-9 month developmentally. So toys with that age suggestion might work. DD3 also has a hearing impairment, but that doesn't particularly influence my choice of toys. Touchy- feely books with real life photographs rather than pictures were a big hit, mirrors, and baby dolls who mum could use for language type play (eg. kiss baby, give baby a drink, brush baby's hair) are all possibilities. I also remember Portage at this age focussing on "container" play - putting stuff in a box or tin and taking it out again. Apparently developmentally sigificant!

dunno how much you want to spend - this is reduced to £19.99 and is pretty great bargain imo. It says 18 months+ but I would have thought OK from 1. Its pretty versatile and you can also play putting stuff in / out with it. Only downside is that it is quite big / bulky so her mom may not be too chuffed - particularly if she's got loads of toys from 2 nippers:

Oh my dd loves this - she can press the button on it as well cos its pretty easy - one of the few cause/effect toys she can play with independently:

Thanks for the great ideas. Really difficult as she already has lots of toys from her older sister. You have all given me some ideas of toys that her older sister didn't have when she was a baby. I'm off present shopping now.
