Have you looked up precocious puberty ?

I don't know a lot about it but I was very worried at one stage that DS was going through puberty. His a boy, so my experience may not help.

The Child Growth Foundation (They have a helpline) were extremely helpful in telling more information about the tell tale signs, who to contact and putting me at ease.

DS had two signs of going through early puberty. I visited my GP 8 times with DS ( I know...I was really paranoid), they tested him and concluded that he wasn't going through puberty. I'm not sure about girls but in boys, they especially looked out for a growth spurt, measured his weight and height, a quick increase in shoe size and growth of the testicles. DS is nearing 8 (I was worried a year ago) and has no other signs of puberty.

My first point of call would be to contact the child growth foundation and take it from there.

I've heard girls start puberty a little earlier than boys.

Either speak to gp or paediatrician.
At 6 it is classed as precocious puberty, (appearance of signs of puberty before 7yo in girls) our paediatrician requested a hand X-ray to determine bone age, and then referred us to endocrinology.
The order in which signs of puberty show is also important and something which they would monitor.

For my dd, X-ray showed advanced bone growth, development was in the correct order (just early) and a blood test by endocrinologist determined she was in true puberty, so bone growth and puberty were in line with each other,
It was a long referral process, so by the time we got to endocrinology we’d decided to let it run its course and prepare for menarche rather than try to delay it.

Gp thinks may be Idiopathic Thelarche - early breast development. There is a chance it may be precocious puberty but she does not think so. She has referred her to specialist at the hospital for further investigation though.
