DS1 has tourettes and possible a mild form of Aspergers.

Wondered if anyone else had read this and any thoughts.

Hi! Is that the book by the chiropractor specialised in neurology about ?cerrebellar delay syndrome or similar phrasiology? The one that says that tourettes, ADD, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia AS are all symptoms of neurological delay rather than true diagnosises (sp)(sorry bad spelling day today and cant find book to check title!)

on reading teh tread title I was wondering if it was YET another of those touchy feeling books- Is that my child? thats not my child... its jumper is too furry. Thats not my child its socks are too soggy.
Sorry for teh irrelevance ;-)

Hi again, found the book by Robin Pauc where he defines developmental delay syndrome. I found the desciption of DDS as he calls it made the hairs stand up my neck! (and I ticked all the boxes for my DS) It sounds sensible and hopeful. But the evidence is all circumstantial or anecdocal. I went to the website and could not find solid evidence there either. The eating advise seemed sensible. What did you think of the book, has anyone paid for the assessments? I would be interested also.

Hi Magso, Yes that's the one.
I have a son with Tourettes and (possible a mild form of Aspergers).
I am reading it at the moment and just wondered if anyone had found it helpful?
I am not sure I think along his lines.

Just thought anyone else out there reading/read it might have something to help me decided

Hi Kimi, I was quite excited when I started to read the book, (I guess Im always looking for helpful stuff and the odd miracle thrown in- my son has Sn) but I rather lost interest when i realised we already did the careful diet, omega 3/6, almost given up work to be with DS, etc, and then I found the rather belittling tone of the case histories a bit unpalatable IYKWIM. Ive never met a mother who would 'rather spend her time in the mall than help her child'. I had rather put the book to one side for future consideration, whilst I sorted out the statement and got the newish OT up and running. Couldnt find the other threads, though there was one recently on the Dore method which seems to me to have a similar perspective. I'd like to do a proper literature search!

found the links, by typing Pauc in special needs (his full name didnt work). guess you have already found it!

kimi · 16/04/2007 16:47

I had not found any links as I had not thought of dong that but will now thank you.

The diet and the fish oils I can go with but the fact he seems to think we are all "born too soon" kind of has me thinking ummm ok next book please.

It so hard to take in so much info and sort the good from the bad and down right mad.

Hi again Kimi, I can understand the immature brain at birth stance- although the lack of references to follow up about spindle cells is frustrating (i'm missing my former life I think!). I have also intuitively felt (how unscientific is that!!) that neurological immaturity is my childs underlying problem (he has ADHD SLD DCD ASD traits so fits the Pauc philosophy of symptoms). It is difficult to sort the wood from the trees, and do the best for the DCs. Parents of SN have to parents and experts! Has anyone found zinc tablets helpful? Any scientific references I can follow up?

I found Kids in the mix a really really good and informative book, have you read that one?

Hi,I did a search for kids in the mix but couldn't find anything - who is that one by? What does it cover? DS1 has tics that have been there for the lat three years on and off so anything that could help would be worth a try. Thx
