Went for an asessment, but they didnt asess her, said they didnt need to, we were offered the choice of a major buggy or a wheelchair, i was going to go for the major but DH said No, he preferred a wheelchair as he felt that we wouldnt get as many stares as if we got a buggy, he said he wouldnt be responsible for what came out of his mouth if he caught people staring at DD, so i said lets see what DD likes and she went for the wheelchair, she is having a purple and black one like Barney she said

So should be here in about 6 weeks, im looking at buying things to put on it like accessories, does anyone know of companies that sell things like this?

I came away feeling a bit sad cos it hit home today that DD isnt going to "catch up" as so many well meaning people have been telling us re her walking BUT at least she,s getting something that will help her.

DS was very proud and said HE>LL be the one who pushes her and that if he sees anyone staring at her he will punch them in the face......oh dear........

Hi jenk
I hope your dd really loves her new wheels, I guess mixed emotions for you though.
My ds2 has had his major buggy for a few months now & loves it, says its higher than his baby pushchair! I recon as he gets older though he may prefer a wheelchair. We do get stares people notice the buggy & then look again to stare at ds, we live in a very small town & everyone is used to seeing ds in it now & so the only stares are from the tourists.
But I guess they'll only stare once if your dh is pushing anyway.
There are bonuses as well - I got in free at the theme park & ds qualified for sn rate without us asking, the lady said she noticed his particular type of pushchair & hoped we weren't offended!
They always carry my tray in the cafe at M&S & find me a table & more people hold doors open for you.

Jenk - Not that i condone violence of course but how lovely your ds feels protective over his sister...! I can imagine that it was a very bitter sweet moment for you.

I hope you dd is chuffed with her barney wheelchair

Your dh and I think alike
I felt the same that a wheelchair would get less stares.
How old is your ds?
my ds(15) now tells young boys that dd is too good for them.....older/grown up men that she is too young for them and girls/women that she doesn't swing that way.
Was really funny seeing the face of this man who was staring at her and he heard ds say that.
Be prepared to ring up in about a month and ask the progress of the order.

Hi, have you tried Ebay for accessories? I have seen some stuff on there, but haven't bought anything myself just yet.

My 4 y.o. dd was assessed by a paediatric physio earlier this week, and they are referring her to wheelchair services to (hopefully) get a Major buggy. The Piedro boots are helping, but she still can't walk a short distance without getting exhausted, & her lips go blue (heart probs). The physio said we might not get one, I guess it depends on how much money they've got spare!

tomkat, you should definately get one especially of your daughters lips are turning blue.

2shoes, DD is 3 next week, and DS is 10, he has not stopped talking about how he is going to defend her and push her and DD has not stopped saying "where my wheels gone"?

She cant wait

Neither can DH as he has to carry her most of the time.
