they have autism and LD so they are blissfully unaware of the process, they have never had a GA before, the dentist suggested them having a needle to give the GA she went on to say they have some magic cream
as politly as possible i suggested that the cream would not really be magic enuff, so we are going with the mask, i know i am gonna have to hold them down for this but am hoping that it won't take long does anyone know how long until they are asleep?
i just know this is gonna stress me and in bloody stereo !

OJ, my DD3 with Downs and ASD had a GA for grommits 2 years ago. She's alot younger than your girls, so responded to some songs from me whilst the GA kicked in, and I would say it took 30 secs or so. The anaesthetist, gradually moved the mask closer and closer to her face, and she seemed OK with it. The downside was when she came round - she was COMPLETELY starving, and was very angry that she couldn't have food for a couple of hours or so. When toast and jam was finally produced she nearly choked on it, she stuffed it in her mouth so fast! Doesn't do hunger my girl.....
Good luck for tomorrow.

thanks for the replies, DH is coming and we have had to find someone to have DS overnight tonight as we have an early start, i am not sure how the no breakfast thing is going to work but i can guess it won't be pretty
good to hear the 30 secs fingers crossed.

good luck for tomorrow hun, the GA doesnt take long, my 13yr old had the injection when he was little, and was then told to count down from 10, he got to 6 and he was flat out lol, and i had a GA a few mths back and was shocked at how quick i was out, so although it will be hard work, it shouldnt be for long, i have the same problem as headgirl, my lad has had GA twice and both times was hungry and unimpressed at being unable to eat lol, hope it all goes well hun. x

My 3 yo (CP) had a GA a few weeks ago for botox injections. They used gas to put her out then the injection. She was fine. Like a bear with a sore head when she woke up though!
The no food thing was a bummer. No breakfast then no lucnh cos the surgeon was running late. One very crabby 3 yo!
Good luck for tomorrow.

Hi Oj

My dd with asd had a ga 2 years ago having her teeth out.
Dh was with her when they put the mask on. She was absolutely fine. We tried to explain as much as we could and that she understood.

One thing I will warn you about (don't worry though) is that dd was very very sick afterwards. She slept the whole day too.

The very next day she was fine.

Just wish I had known about the sick as I would have been more prepared and apparently it is quite common.

Thinking of you all tomorrow x x x x x
