Preparation for Autism assessment

My DS(6) has an assessment at a 'social communication clinic' next week.
Is there anything I should be doing to prepare for this? It's an hour-long interview with me and DH, plus a separate assessment for DS.
Would it be helpful to prepare a memo on the issues that made me push for this, or would that come across as pushy parent?
Strangers wouldn't necessarily pick up on there being an issue, I think, but I'm pretty certain he's not neurotypical (I have two younger children, so have some standard for comparison).
Any advice or support would be welcome!

Hi, glad you are being listened to and able to get an assessment.

Idk about a memo but definitely do make a list of all the things that made you ask for the assessment and anecdotal examples of situations where you've noticed something relevant to illustrate the points you're making.

As you've probably seen already there's lots of info online about specific traits / challenges children with ASD have or face and you can take some cues from there too. There are also some online questionnaires you can complete which ask relevant questions. I did this with my 4yo DS before his assessment. The paediatrician / professional doing the assessment should ask you lots of questions anyway.

If you have time, you should also ask for a report or list from school,of the things they have noticed. Is there a SENCo who's already involved or a class teacher / TA who knows him well that could put something together for you?

OP, make a list of the differences in your DS' behaviour in comparison to his siblings when they were that age, that's always helpful for the professionals.

Thank you. His siblings are younger, but there's still enough comparisons to be going on with.
