Hi folks, I wondered if anyone had an experience or knowledge of having an autistic child (13yo) at a Steiner School?

no direct experience but I would never send my child to a school whose philosophy (anthroposophy) views disability as a punishment for sins commited in a previous life.

Yes that's appalling. Somebody whose opinion I respect mentioned it to me today so I wondered if, these days, Steiner schools had left all that behind.

Mainstream steiner school - no I wouldn't send my child to one. I've heard too many problems especially bullying, their underlying philosophy/belief system regarding disability (and race), and very rigid curriculum which is at odds with their 'child-led' portrayal. However, Camphill communities are steiner-based and I have heard brilliant tales from some for autism. I am still sceptical though - wasn't helped by a photo from one of a blackboard showing what they had learnt. It included chemistry where they learnt about the elements: earth, air, fire and water Hmm they should have called it Alchemy instead

No, they certainly haven't left this philosophy behind. Have you considered Montessori. My 4 dcs went to one, two with ASD fared really well.
