DS3 is started the ASD diagnosis process.

He has a few words. Did have more & a couple of sentences but regressed.

I believe the verbal stimming is both attention seeking (new baby) & frustration.

Before the baby arrived it was 10mins at night b4 bed. Now it's all day everyday unless we are out doing string but I'm struggling going out with 2 by myself. I have Pnd.

If you managed to reduce verbal stimming what did you do? It's really getting me down, my husband gets frustrated & cross about it & then my anxiety just goes through the roof.

I know everyone on the spectrum is different but I would love some tips to try.

for us, we've tried to increase the number of activities my son can do independently and enjoys rather than decreasing the stimming.
For example, he will run around flapping and squealing a lot - sometimes he absolutely needs to do this (over stimulation, reaction to something new etc, self regulation) but other times it is because he doesn't know what else to do as unstructured time is hard. We set out some little activities for him and also get him to choose things and set him off. We've had to put some time and effort into helping him learn to play with new things but when he's happily playing, the noises decrease.

What kind of activities did you try ?

Generally things like stickers, play dough & painting amuse him but not for any great length of time.

TV amuses him & settles him but I try to use it for when I'm feeding baby & to get him to eat.
