My little boy is 2 years and 3 months old. He has a rare genetic condition which in the vast majority of cases leads to moderate/severe learning disability and an approx 70% chance of ASD.
To cut a long story short, the SEN team working with him suspect he is high functioning. He knows all of his letter sounds (can point to the in any order when I name them) and all of his shapes. There's been very little direct teaching of phonics : 2-3 minutes a day at his request. He is completely non verbal but his understanding is at 40-60 months.
I'm confused. There hasn't been a high functioning case of 48xxyy (his condition) before. I daren't accept that he is in case he somehow regresses. Does this sound weird?
