iPad App to help general knowledge 6yr old ASD?

Ds is verbal and ok academically, but is missing so much general knowledge because he doesn't tend to learn incidentally, watch TV or look at books. So, he wouldn't know that monkeys like bananas or that cats chase mice, what a cowboy or bow and arrow is etc... It makes conversation with peers tricky as it often grinds to halt due to missing knowledge.

Anyone know of a children's app that could help bridge some of this gap with games?

Thanks

I'm afraid I have no ideas, but I'd also be really interested in this. DS is nearly 4, so still very little, but I've also realised there are so many things he doesn't know about, general knowledge wise. I know you mentioned that your little one doesn't tend to look at books (so sorry if this is an annoying suggestion) but if he could be persuaded, if only for a short time, I found that the book 'You Choose' (Nick Sharratt) helped my DS to see things he otherwise hadn't yet come across. I just pointed very quickly at the pictures at first, when interest in it was minimal (but now he guides my hand to the pictures, so that's progress!). The fact I could turn to any page rather than it being a story helped. I agree, though, that an app would be much better!

My DD is being considered for possible ASD and we love You Choose. There is another very similar one called Just Imagine which is also really good. There are also colouring in versions which he might like (DD is only 3 so I'm not very up on what 6 year olds like!)

Maybe YouTube children's song videos might fill in some gaps too, if he likes those?

I haven't tried Just Imagine and didn't know there were colouring in books! Will have to try them (thanks).

I had a quick look at some apps and Montessori have an app called Things That Go Together. It's only 99p and you match pictures of things that go together (toothpaste/toothbrush). They actually have one of a monkey and a banana! I've downloaded it and it looks pretty good (especially for that price) and with just a cursory glance I realised how many things are passing my little one by. So I'm really hoping it helps and hopefully (if not too basic for him) it may help your boy too.
