Hi I was just wondering if anyone had used the English RDIconnect consultant and how you rate her.

Hi Lorns,

We have a US Consultant, but I think there are two UK consultants now, the most well known is Sharon .... there is also a UK consultant who lives in U.S. who has UK families and she does not charge travel expenses, I have spoken to parents who have used both UK consultants, but unsure which one you are referring to? HTH

Also have a look at this thread

Hope things are a little better

Hi monica2 - thanks for responding!

The name of the english consultant given on the RDIconnect website was Martina Gavalierova. I spoke to her today and she confirmed she was the only one!

My DH is very sceptical about this programme - even to the point of not wanting to get the DVD. He wants to know if this programe works with mild AS children with a very good academic ability. Do you happen to know?

Hey how does the US consultant make any money if she flies to the UK? She must lose money?

Thanks also for the thread link. Will look at this now.

Hi Lorns

Sharon is a consultant in training so she is not listed on the RDI connect site yet but she does take on families. There is also another London based consultant in training I think who takes on families.

There are several consultants who travel over to the UK - the one we just had has gone back although comes fairly regularly. I think that Cheryl Fletcher (California I think) may have been planning a visit in April, so I would suggest contacting her. She doesn't charge travel expenses because she is English so visiting family anyway.

RDI is supposed to work for all children from severe through to mild, verbal and non-verbal. All sorts of families do it in the US. Do you have the DVD? It is quite pricey including postage and I am happy to lend you our copy if you would like to watch it without forking out. It helped convince my DH. CAT me with your address if you would like to borrow it.

Martina is one UK consultant but Sharon has been practising longer, she has also has an ASD child, I think.
Cheryl Fletcher is US based but has family here who she visits at least twice a year so doesn't charge travelling expenses as our consultant does. CAT me if you want to know more about the dvd IYKWIM we have one! Our dd is described as "gifted" academically, although she has AS/SID/ODD/sleep disorder and biomedical stuff too, however she has made amazing progress with RDI, and we have progressed rapidly through the stages. We were also lucky and battled to get the other normal help available through the UK system, but for her, RDI has been the real breakthrough!
I think Saker has used Sharon, but I would recommend you chat with her further re her.

Hi Saker, crossed posts! how are you?

Saker · 26/03/2007 23:38

Hi Monica

Sorry I haven't emailed you - been really hectic as usual.

We got on really well with our visiting consultant and feel freshly inspired. Much clearer what our objectives are and how to work on them and finding it all a bit more fun again. Just struggling with the best way to transfer video to the States - did you send a dvd or can you suggest a good way to email footage?

Saker · 26/03/2007 23:39

Lorns - I can give you costings and more info about consultants if you CAT me.

monica2 · 26/03/2007 23:46

Saker, so glad you are finding the new consultant beneficial!
We have ended up posting dvd's, the post has been really quick, we bought a Sony camcorder which records straight onto a mini dvd, half hour which is perfect for RDI, it has overcome all the issues with compatibility etc! We record and post and get feedback quickly, also good for those moments where you think "I wish consultant could see this!"

good to hear from you

Lorns · 27/03/2007 13:19

Saker - I have now CAt you I think! I would be sooo grateful if I could borrow the DVD before I buy. I've left my address on the CAT thing! .
